Title: Los Páofanos.
Técnica utilizada: Mix over canvas. 70 x 170cm.
We call those whose partner has died widowed, and those who have lost a parent are called orphans. I looked for a term for parents whose children have unfortunately passed away, or for siblings of the same parent, and there's no name for them. But when something isn't named, it can't be addressed, so I called ourselves like this: PÁOFANOS. Perhaps there will be some people who, given their own history, will have their own name.
So I dare to write in the plural something that perhaps should be singular, but there are several of us… There are the parents who are “Páofanos de hija” (daughter's Páofanos). I'm 46, and Juan is 54. “Páofanos de hermana” (sister's Páofanos): María is 25, Juan was 19 at the time, and Isa was 18. And so the list goes on: grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends; We all became Paofanos on October 25, 2023.
The first few weeks, no one knows how one manages to live, because what exists is very painful. VERY. There are times when it seems like one of those movies where you can't stop crying, or one of those that are very long. Sometimes it seems like a dream, or a nightmare. Maybe that's why we Paofanos sleep so poorly. Especially at first.
Sometimes, the pain is so intense it makes it hard to breathe. Your body still hurts, as if you were sick, but without the illness. Or your bones hurt, but without falling. Although some Paofanos have already fallen because this is so strong that you don't have the brains to think clearly. I'm already absent-minded, but this made me worse. Even those who are busy became distracted.
And it caught us by surprise, and not in a nice way. It was heartbreaking. Absolutely devastating. It left nothing but desolation and suffering.
I must also say that we Paofanos are learning to live like this, learning to know everything again because who we were is now in Heaven with her, and we are getting to know who we are now.
I love each one of us, because even with our wounds, I see the courage, the wonder in every sign we understand that comes from the transcendent. I look at amazing men and women who dare to rise up and move forward. I learn to recognize subtlety and how we now walk through life with more respect.
If you ever meet a Paofano, remember that we may look the same on the outside, but you should know that inside there are hearts that beat softly and that we have a wound that I still don't know if it will heal in this life.
If you're an X-fano, I hope this way of naming pain helps you on your journey through life as you find your eternal connection.
Title: Blossom Again.
Technique: Mix over canvas. 170 x 70cm.
I had a time when I couldn't paint... months, a huge block.
It was frustrating and painful, too.
I would start the day, take out my canvases, brushes, and paints, ready to get started. Hours would pass until nightfall, and the canvases would remain blank, the brushes dry, and the paint tubes closed; maybe a stroke here or a dot there, but nothing more.
I read and looked at hundreds of images for inspiration. I even went to therapy to find out what was happening; I read books, meditated, and prayed for it to pass.
Until one February afternoon, there was silence. I accepted that I was giving up. The mental noise diminished to almost nothing.
And then the color emerged again. My creations and I made peace so that the lines, the colors, the backgrounds could appear once more. The shapes and forms began to emerge again.
That internal struggle ended.
I lost hundreds of battles, but in the end, I won the war; or rather, I won my peace.
My winter ended, and I blossomed again.
Title: Eternal Blue.
Technique: Oil over canvas. 50cm Diameter.
I see you in my memories, I try not to forget the timbre of your voice, your laughter.
I force myself to remember stories about the two of us. I see you sitting in the kitchen, or hugging me in the hallway, listening silently when you said, "I love you, Mommy."
I think about how your breathing sounded when you were sleeping next to me. I imagine again the softness of your little hands when you held mine.
And so, a moment later, uninvited, sadness arrives to flood my eyes, to help me wash away those memories with tears and keep them as clear and clean as possible.
That's why I paint blue, to resemble the immense sea filled with salt water like my tears that cleanse, that remind you, that miss you.

Call me Kala...
-Why Kala?-
It’s a combination of art and magic. The transit to Kala was written.
“My given name is Andrea. My dad´s name is Andres, and my mother told me when she was a little girl all her favorite dolls used to name Andrea. So, as you can tell, this name was chosen for me before I was born. For me, I think it is a beautiful name, a strong name for any person and I really love it.”
But let me tell you a story, please listen to it with your child´s soul, because this a true story, but only pure hearts will know…
Once upon a time there was a little girl named Andrea, she grew as a happy girl, liked her life, and everything went fine for her.
Time went by until she started knowing the world, she began her life as an adult and felt she was going to touch many many hearts, so the question was in that moment how would she achieve that task? She made many things to know it before she was certain, but one day, with all the power a woman can have, she decided to go after the thing that made her feel alive, have you ever really feel blood in your veins? Well, she felt it… she knew her way to make it true was through art, that was the way. She wasn’t sure about nothing else, so she made a decision: if she was going to keep this new path, she had to have a reminder, something to keep her in there: all blessed, and keep blessing people who knew her or her art; so she decided it had to be something so powerful that she couldn’t forget: so she decided to sacrifice her name.
She asked her angels, and after a time They gave her a new name: from now on, her new name will be Cala.
Cala felt her whole life had ended along with her beloved daughter. So again, she asked for guidance: how could someone get through such pain and still be there for others. She knew she had also dyed that same October’s afternoon. After a while, Cala knew this was true: a part of her was no longer there and will never come back. She accepted her heart always would miss a piece, and now she would be different, a new one.
She was still committed with her life´s task, only she became a new woman, she had to, this was something bigger than her, that’s where she became from Cala to KALA. As a reminder, she was a new person who had dyed alive and came again to keep going with love and dignity. To forthfill her life´s task.
So, remember this: every time you call her like that, or you see one of her paintings please receive her blessings and her angels blessings too. Believe it: all of them are in there: Blessing your existence, your life, your soul, your senses. Knowing that anyone could go through unimaginable pain and still be kind.
Every time you see her signature in her art is time to believe in yourself, it is a time to know that the universe is conspiring to give you better opportunities, better life, a life with a porpoise, also to give you the best, just as she is now.
And next time you see her, you can call her Andrea, but if you want to receive this extraordinarily good vibes just call her Kala.
